A Change of Scene

Hitting the Open Road on a Friday Lunchtime - or not, as most roads in and around Houston are more congested than clear and open, nonetheless, off we popped to Galveston Ferry Terminal roughly 60 miles door to door for a weekend of fun in the sun with some pals.
We were off to Crystal Beach on the Bolivar Peninsula, it is a coastal community in Texas located just east of Galveston Island along the Gulf of Mexico, it has a 27 mile beach front and is an easy getaway from Houston for some peace and quiet and a change of scene.
It was severely affected by Hurricane Ike in 2008 and is slowly still getting back on its feet. There is a free 24 hour car ferry which takes you from Galveston Ferry terminal to The Peninsula - It can get quite busy at the weekends but I love it! You usually always get to see Dolphins, Herons and Pelicans...
We stayed at the gorgeous Villa Verdie - a newly completed Beach house which is basically on the beach front. There is a massive supermarket type thing on the island which has everything you need and some 'wee' spots for some southern cuisine and margaritas. Just what the DR ordered!
